With rising power costs in the world these days, there's been a lot of attention on how to save money on power. Computers, depending on usage, can consume quite a bit of power. AnandTech has posted a very interesting article about PC wattage use and how much they would cost if left on. In the article, they use three sample computers and calculate total electrical costs using average electric costs in North Carolina, California, and Germany. They also note how an efficient PSU can help reduce wattage use and how much of a difference it can make on your electric bill.

To calculate your PC wattage use, Outer Vision eXtreme has a eXtreme Power Supply Calculator available. While not 100% accurate, it gives people an idea how much power their particular PC consumes. It even has settings to compensate for overclocking/underclocking.

does using a TV instead of a computuer screen effect it much?

well, it always depends on the type of screen I guess . I dont think there is much difference between a tv or computer screen of the same size and type.

for example, I think if you take a 12 inch lcd tv and a 12 inch lcd computerscreen that the energy usage will be almost the same . as I said it depends on the type of screen and size of it XD.
