Looks like even the official servers have caved. Official server iRO now offer a free server which opened recently. Check it out below.

wow =o

A lot of changes though. It's like "pay or get crappy limitations on the entire server."

Just to say I had decided to try it. For some reason I have always wanted to play on the official server. So, I did and this is the result of 1 and a half hours work.

It took a bit longer since I had to go through the job change quest, which was fun for a while. Two nice little tricks I found to leveling are the existence of the Repeatable EXP Quests (http://irowiki.org/wiki/Repeatable_EXP_Quests) as well as the "Class training quests" (http://irowiki.org/wiki/Quests#Class-specific_Quests).

Over this, I discovered to my delight that making infinite novices to get free novice potions works here too. This enabled me to take on stronger monsters at a pretty crappy level.

Overall, I would say the rates being official makes leveling pretty slow, but my understanding is that the repeatable EXP quests speed things up very much.

In spite of all this, I was not bored at all. Quite the contrary, it was really nice playing this way. No one is rushing to transcend, everyone levels at their own pace. There was even a conference in the centre of a gang of thieves :D. The screenshot was taken about 15 minutes later.

All in all, I would say if you want to WoE or do high end stuff you most likely cannot do it here, but casual leveling now and then is certainly appealing to me. Anyone else feel interested enough to give it a try?

I'm interested, but I feel so horribly busy. I think I'm going to give up MMOs for the foreseeable future due to the horrible reality of difficult classes (like Calculus) and this weird thing called a life which seems to have cropped up. RL friends like to eat time apparently O.o

I'm trying to work it out. It seems like I waste an hour every day staring into space trying to figure out what to do T.T Life's crazy atm. I'll get back to you about playing when I have time.

edit: uwaaaaaaah! you have my hair!

:D, i liked it. For once I took 5 minutes in figuring out what my character should look like. Hopefully I can slowly but steadily become an assassin in the forseeable future :P

Small update, after going through various leveling spots I came across this repeatable exp quest in which you exchange 25 acorns for about 4,500 experience. Doing a few rounds with that has gotten me to a level 30/23 Thief!

I always wanted to experience officials because then I experience the actual game, the original way it was intended to be played. That would probably be why I enjoy playing there.
Level 32/24 btw :P
