For those of us in the U.S., Gamestop will be holding a SSB:B tournament, starting on the midnight launch. I might participate in the tournament, probably with Shiek, although I hear that she's been nerfed a bit in SSB:B. :(

Anyone else thinking about participating in the midnight launch Gamestop tournaments?

It looks like a lot of people from the Smash World Forums will be participating in this tournament. Some people are reporting that some locations require early sign-ups, so you might want to check in with your local GameStop to see if you have to sign up for the tournament before midnight's launch. The official rules do state that you have to be there 30 minutes before the tournament starts, in order to participate.

From some of the posts over there, they are speculating that the matches will be 1:00 minute elimination matches. As for controllers, it's not sure whether they will be using GameCube, Wii classic, or Wii remote & nunchuck controllers.

Looks like they'll be starting the tournaments at 10:30 PM, which means you have to show up at or before 10:00 PM to participate in the tournament. Wii Remote + Chuck will probably be used as the controller for the tournament.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - GameStop Tournament

Well, I went to the GameStop SSB:B tournament last night at my local GameStop. There was quite a few people there, either participating in the tournament, or waiting for the midnight release! :o

In our GameStop tournament, there were a total of 38 participants. Since tournament mode only allowed 32 people, they had to split the match into two tournaments.

We were able to choose our own characters. The matches were 1-on-1 and the stages for all matches were set to the Final Destination match. The time limit was set to 1 minute. Since the matches were 1-on-1, I decided to pick Shiek, since that was the character I was most familiar with.

Overall, I won three matches and I was able to make it to the semi-final. In the semi-final, I was up against a player who was using Pit. It was pretty even for the first 15 seconds, with both of us getting up to ~75% with basic attacks. However, the Pit player was able to make a strong blow against me, which sent me flying into the air. I could have returned to the stage, but a hammer dropped for the Pit player and smacked me with it when I approached the edge. :( I tried to knock out the Pit player to make it even, but the Pit player decided to just fly around and time ran out.

Even though I lost, it was still fun being able to play against quite a few skillful players at the tournament. :D

Congratulations to Smo, who won the tournament at his local SSB:B tournament! :D

I have no idea how I won at my location, but I did... pretty amazing. A lot of luck, too. I can't believe we had random characters... I had Kirby and won - unbelievable... Hopefully I can pick Link this time!

That's the ugliest trophy I've ever seen...

Pretty sad that even GameStop put a picture of Mario on it's face. :P

Yep. I haven't heard from GameStop yet, but I will be giving them a call tomorrow if I haven't heard anything by the end of the day.

I plan on getting kicked out in the first round, but whatever. I'll let you know all about it.

I think I'll be playing at the Mall Of America, but I have no idea what time that's at...
