Publicly, Microsoft has said Windows 7, the successor operating system to the firm's much maligned Windows Vista, will not ship until early 2010, but its internal calendar has June 3, 2009 as the planned release date, InternetNews.com has learned.
"I know they've been working on it feverishly, and the codebase is not all that far from Vista, so it's not a complete development project like they had to undertake between Windows XP and Vista," said Roger Kay, president of Endpoint Technologies.
I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that Windows 7 is coming out so soon, considering the fact that Microsoft is using Vista as a base template for Windows 7 and is treating this as an 'intermediary update', rather than an a complete overhaul, like MS did with Vista.
Although I'm perfectly fine with Vista x64 at the moment (BTW, superfetch is bliss), Windows 7 will hopefully bring some nice improvements, such as improved boot times and a 'less-annoying' UAC, both features which MS claim to be working on in Windows 7 at the moment. I could probably care less about the improved touch sensor features, something that MS is touting about with Windows 7.

I wonder what the next Windows name will be...? My guesses:
- Windows PC (MS seems to be focused on their "I'm a PC" marketing, so this might be possible)
- Windows Seven (Even though it's only the code name, the name might just stick)
- Windows Touch (MS keeps bragging about touch features of 7, so this might be one)
- Windows Bliss
- Windows NX
- Windows NEXT
- Windows Green (Since going 'green' seems to be popular in marketing these days...
- Windows Eco
- Windows Sense
- Windows Gates Edition
- Windows Sucks
- Windows ME II (Just kidding
Anyhow, we'll find out later this winter, when the first beta of Windows 7 supposedly comes out.
